I'm pretty sure the R800 that will get here next Wednesday really IS the last consumer grade camcorder I will ever buy! It has IBIS and I can use an external monitor with it, should I ever need to, and the old R400 becomes the backup. There are some examples on Youtube under JoeMustang99. Most of the time I have another camera at the shooter position, usually a Canon G30 (which I am also very happy with). No overheating, no cards filling up, no glitches.

I leave the camcorder recording for most of the range time because of the distance from the shooting position and ease of synching audio if I leave the recorders and cameras running. I have been using the R400 at the target position for pistol shooting Youtube videos, with the camera on a tripod, usually in good weather and with good light. I don't worry about a $200 camera with the bullets passing by within 2 feet to the side, like I would if I had my Sony Rx100v or Olympus E-M5ii out there! I didn't think I would ever buy another consumer camcorder, but the simplicity of operation, small files, external mic input are perfect for my application.
I checked on buying a backup and found a few, but the later R800 model has the upgrades I like, and only costs $219 in the US. But, image quality is perfect for my use and it has been 100% reliable. It's getting a little old and doesn't have usb or hdmi connectivity. I've had and regularly used a Canon HF R400 camcorder for nearly 6 years.
